ACHIEVING A CIRCULAR ECONOMY

LOW GWP F-GASES ARE CRUCIAL TO KEEPING HVACR CIRCULARITY IN REACH.

FLUORINATED GASES: ACHIEVING A CIRCULAR ECONOMY

Taking care of our shared planet requires a shift away from conventional economics, where vast amounts of resources and energy are used to produce short-lived goods and materials.

That’s where circularity comes in. The United Nations defines a circular economy as a sustainable economic model “in which products and materials … can be reused, remanufactured, recycled, or recovered … and thus maintained in the economy for as long as possible.” Through circularity, the useful lives of products are extended, which helps reduce their environmental impact.

Circularity is critical

Where F-gases Excel

In both heating and cooling applications, F-gases provide a unique opportunity to enable a circular economy. F-gases can be recovered, reclaimed, and reused across multiple applications today, maximizing resource life and generating less waste—and reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the process.

Compare that to industrial gases, many of which are not reclaimed. Refrigerant grade CO₂ (R-744), for example, is frequently vented into the atmosphere, where it persists as a greenhouse gas for hundreds of years.

Committed to Circularity

Chemours has a series of existing refrigerant reclaim/recycling relationships, and we are continually looking for opportunities to expand these programs.

We will continue to work along the value chain to encourage circularity principles and support the responsible recycling and reuse of the refrigerants we manufacture. We consider it part of our commitment to supporting our customers, protecting the environment, and building a circular economy.

Chemours is committed to creating a better world through the power of our chemistry, and that requires partnering across the value chain.
